Two years ago, when Pearl finished her daycare career, it happened quite suddenly. Without a whole lot of warning, we went travelling for a couple of months, and when we returned, she went to kindergarten for a term before starting school.
Her profile book – a book of her life at daycare, with photos, artwork, teachers’ observations, notes about outings and events, and stories about her – wasn’t quite ready for us to take with us when we left. By the time we came back, it was missing.
We asked several times over several months whether it might have shown up. We visited her old daycare quite often to say hello and let her see her old friends, so we had plenty of opportunity. But eventually she started school, and so did her old friends, and we didn’t have much reason to go there any more. (Fainjin attends a different centre). And we gave the profile book up for lost.
So imagine our suprise and joy when we got an email from them today telling us they had found it! The Dad went to collect it this afternoon, and we have spent a very pleasant evening perusing its pages. It is beautifully done, with letters to her from her teachers, and photos of her in her pink sparkly fairy dress that Nana made for a Christmas present one year. Pearl read the stories avidly, exclaiming “I remember that!” and telling her brother tales of “back in the day…”.
I’m so pleased we have this special piece of our family archive now.
