Unpacking

When I arrived this afternoon to pick Babess up from her settling visit, she didn’t notice I was there for a few minutes.  She was sitting very happily with a teacher and another, older child.  They had provided her with a couple of large paper shopping bags – the sort with handles – filled with wooden blocks.  She was busily occupied taking blocks out, inspecting them minutely, and either putting them back in the bag, or setting them down beside her.  Sometimes she would end up with one in each hand, and would bang them together a couple of times and grin at the noise.

They had found the ideal activity for her.  It’s one she often seeks out for herself, only it’s my handbag which provides the entertainment.  If I don’t catch her fast enough, I can find the contents of my bag strewn from the front door through to the kitchen.  I have to be very careful when we’re on the bus, too, as she would happily toss everything out of the bag and into the seats behind us.

It’s so lovely when your child finds a teacher (or teachers) who truly understand her.
