Pearl’s idea of heaven

I took Pearl to a charity book sale this morning, an early birthday shopping treat.  Expecting books to be about $1 or $2 each, Nana sponsored the expedition to the tune of $20.  But when we got there, children’s books were 50c!  So we went wild.  We didn’t manage to collect 40 books; my arms gave out at 35.  We found Tom Sawyer, Huckleberry Finn, Black Beauty, Kim, The Jungle Book, and many many others.  Lots of princess, ballet and pony books, but also several adventure tales and classics.  My own pile was very modest by comparison – half a dozen knitting patterns and some sheet music.

I realised as I was packing the books up after paying that we’d been charged $1 for the children’s books – yes, very inattentive of me! – but I decided that even $1 per book for charity was a very good deal, and chose not to argue.  Now all we have to do is find shelf space.

It was a very quiet afternoon.  The younger two took a nap.  Both at the same time!  And Pearl was (surprise surprise) curled up in a patch of sunshine with a new old book.  Win-win-win, I hit the trifecta.

That’s kind of my idea of heaven too.
