Strike two for the tooth fairy

Pearl went to Girls’ Brigade this afternoon.  A friend from school goes, and invited her along to check it out.  Babess and I went along too, to see how it went.  I think Babess was more into it than Pearl, I can see I will have to make her a miniature uniform and baby badges.  She was bouncing and clapping along with the singing, and when the girls played a “train” game, guess who was calling out “choo choo!”?

Pearl was initially reluctant to join in, but the leader was very good at encouraging and including her, and by the end of the session Pearl was enthusiastic about going along every week.  We’ll see how it goes over the next week or two before we make a commitment, though.

There was a prize for the group of girls who were best-behaved during one part of the session, and Pearl was in that group.  The prize was a mini Pinky bar – pink marshmallow with caramel, covered in chocolate.  I suggested she have it for pudding, ie after dinner, reminding her about her wobbly teeth, but she begged to eat it on the way home instead.  Oh, alright then.

She enjoyed it very much, although it was quite sticky – chocolate bars are an extremely infrequent event in her life – and chattered away as we walked home (all of about 3 minutes walk, including crossing a main road).  It was as we were coming down our driveway that I looked at her, laughed, and asked “Where’s your tooth?!”

Striken, she stopped dead in her tracks, looked at me, and said “Oh no!  I must have swallowed this one, too!”

Poor tooth fairy.  It’s a tough job.

Why do people always reward kids with food? Boggles my mind.
