Half-way there

The bedroom-door gate is working!

We have reduced Fainjin’s day-time naps, in cooperation with day-care, so that he is more tired at night-time.  He still likes to fall asleep on the floor, preferably in his doorway, but he can’t leave his room.  He can see the TV (if it’s on), but there’s precious little we can do about that, so we turn it off if there’s not something we really want to watch, and studiously ignore him the rest of the time.

He has been falling asleep around 7:30-8pm, which is a big improvement.  We lift him into his bed when we retire for the night.

For the first few nights he would get up in the middle of the night, come to the gate and shout for us.  It was hard, but I ignored him as best I could, and I think he would only be awake for about five minutes.  The first two nights, he went back to sleep on the floor, then for a few nights he climbed into Babess’ cot to be with her!  I don’t think she was terribly impressed.  We would find them in the morning, him all sprawled out and her snuggled into a small space at one end.  I was a bit worried he would land on top of her when climbing in, in the middle of the night, but it didn’t happen.

And for nearly a whole week now, when we go into their room in the morning, he is sleeping just where we left him, in his bed.  It’s enough to make a parent feel nearly human again.  Now, if we can just get him to start the night there as well…
