How to get a small child to wear slippers

Recently, Fainjin has stubbed his bare toes twice as he’s moved around the house.  He was barefoot because he’s outgrown his beloved “rocket” slippers – which match his “space-man” pyjamas.  After today’s injury, I held him in my lap and suggested that it was time for new slippers.  He tearfully agreed, and this afternoon The Dad took him shopping.

I’m told he was very good about trying different things on, up to a point.  The point where they found these:

Once he’d seen the fire-engine slippers, everything else he tried on was “Too small, Daddy”.  Funny, that!
