Pearl and I went to the park by the beach to eat our lunch today – got to love this summer weather!  Then I sat with a book while she rode around and around and around on her scooter.

After a while, she came back and said, “Mummy?”

“You know that thing with the bows and arrows?”

“Yes.  Well, there’s a sign over there saying there’s archery here.”

“Really?”  I looked around.  No bows, arrows, targets or white-dressed competitive archers in sight.  “I’ll have a look on our way out of the park.”

She came back again to report that the sign said “Caution – Archery In Progress”.

I was bemused, until I walked over and saw what she had found.  It was the sort of graffiti you find painted onto the footpath, and said “Caution – Anarchy in Progress”.

“What’s anarchy?” she asked.

“It’s when there’s no government,” I said, “and people live without rules.”

“Ohhh… like cannonballs?”

“Huh?” (Always quick with an intelligent comeback)  “What about cannonballs?”

“You know, people who eat other people and they have kings but they don’t have rules, except for having fun…”

People who eat other people.  Cannibals.  Cannonballs living in archery.  Right.

My husband has a test he runs our children through… if they can say “I went to hospital, I ate spagetti and it was disgusting” correctly – they’re no longer cute.
Hope you’re writing all of these down!

That’s what this blog is (partly) for! By your husband’s criterion, Pearl would no longer count as cute… although there might be a difference between reading it aloud correctly and repeating an adult say it. The Dad suggests an addition: “I went to hospital in an ambulance” etc.
