E-reader

We’ve decided to get an e-reader, mostly for travelling so we don’t have to take an extra suitcase just for the books.  Ideally, of course, we’d get one each, but that’s not realistic.

I was talking about it with Pearl today, explaining that we have ordered one and have to wait for it to arrive.  The Dad is the next person to travel, so he will get first go at picking books for it.  (Of course, I hope that when we’re not travelling, it will live in my handbag…)

Pearl was quite concerned.  She likes to read very thick books, and I think she thought that there wouldn’t be enough room on the device.  She thought The Dad should delete his books when he got home so she could put hers on.  I told her it holds about 1,000 books, but the number didn’t seem to register.

“Look,” I said, “it’s like having a whole bookcase.  Loads of room!  I think we can let Daddy have one shelf.”

She liked that idea.  “Ooooh! Cool!” she said.  “Can we have a shelf each?”

I will also have to explain to her that e-books are not, in general, free.  Or convince her to just read the free ones.

What kind did you buy? Many e-Readers can be used here in the US to download free books from the library, although they “expire” after 2 weeks. I wonder if NZ libraries have this service?

    Yep, they do! http://www.wcl.govt.nz/downloads/
