Shapes

In the back seat of the car, Babess was reading a book with Fainjin’s help.  In the book, Cookie Monster is making cookies of different shapes.

Babess turned a page, and Fainjin said, “Those are rectangles!”

In a sad little voice, Babess said, “But I don’t like rectangles.”

“Well turn the page then,” said big brother indulgently.  “Ah, those are squares!”

“But I don’t like squares.”

“Turn the page then.  Those are stars!”

“But I don’t like stars.”

“Turn the page then!” he was starting to make a game of it.  “Those are circles!”

“I don’t like circles,” she was still attempting the sad little voice, but was struggling.

“Turn the page then!”

It was only a few pages more before they both dissolved in giggles.
