Medieval Mayhem!

On Monday it was a Bank Holiday in the UK, and I was feeling better enough to go out, so we went with our hosts to Kenilworth Castle for a day of Medieval Mayhem.

The children were furnished with plastic & rubber swords, and with five of them between two families it soon was mayhem indeed as they leapt onto and over various bits of ruin, waving weaponry and crying “Charge!”.

It was fantastic.  I’ve never seen anything quite so joyous as small children playing swordfights all over a real ruined castle.

In the pauses between swordfights, we explored the Elizabethan Gardens, had tea & cake in the old stables, did some brass rubbing, learned about medieval games, saw some “real” knights in actual armour, and explored the ruins themselves.

Since then, we’ve had a couple of quiet days in Gloucestershire catching up with other old friends, and today we have travelled to Paris.  Stay tuned for more exciting adventures soon.
